A Look Back at 2024; Looking Forward to 2025: Engaging Our Community

To: The Berwick Community

From: The Berwick Civic Association Trustees

In 2024, the Berwick Civic Association Trustees made it a priority to increase resident engagement by inviting guest speakers to our meetings. These speakers brought valuable insights and shared information we believed would resonate with and benefit our community.

Throughout the year, we were proud to host the following presenters at our monthly meetings:

April: Bill Williams, City of Columbus Code Enforcement Supervisor for Far East Side, Area 7, presented to our residents. He shared a myriad of information, defining several high-priority code enforcement violations and the steps taken to address them.

May: Our meeting was held at the new, beautiful Brookwood Point Senior Living facility. Following the meeting our residents toured the facility.

We also partnered with Arts Possible Ohio to host a Community Movie Night!

June: Officer Poole, Columbus Division of Police, Motorcycle Unit shared information with our residents about the steps being taken to address excessive speed and reckless operation of motor vehicles in the city. We held our annual neighborhood garage sale.

July: Carly Woodrow, Production Manager at Avay Recycling presented information about the services they provide related to recycling electronics. We are planning to conduct an electronics recycling event in 2025.

September: Representatives from Columbus State Community College shared the exciting updates about the new Career Development Center that will be located right here in the Eastland Community.

October: We hosted our Annual Trunk or Treat event. It was a huge success! We had visits from more than 600 ghosts, goblins and other characters.

We are committed to building on this momentum in 2025 and continuing to bring meaningful presentations to our community.

We started the year strong with a presentation from Columbus City Councilmember Lourdes Barros de Padilla, our representative for District 8—the largest district by land area in the city. Councilmember Barros de Padilla shared a wealth of information about various City projects and their potential impact on our neighborhood, sparking valuable conversations among our residents.

Looking ahead, we are excited to welcome Mr. Dennis Wheeler from the Franklin County Office on Aging as our guest speaker at the February meeting. He will be sharing resources and services available to support our senior residents.

We look forward to seeing you at our meetings throughout the year as we continue fostering community connections and sharing valuable information. Wishing you a safe, healthy, and prosperous 2025!
